Bear Recurve String Lengths

Can anyone tell me the original lengths of the strings for these Bear recurves.  I know that it is generally 4" less than the recure length but maybe there is a site that gives exact string lengths.

The Bearcat is pre AMO standards and will be between a 62 or 63" string depending on who was on the assembly line that day  

AMO standards (adopted in Feb of 1968) state the AMO bow length is 3" more than the string needed to properly brace a bow.  So that 60" Hunter should use a 57" string.  My '69 Kodiak Hunter was measured and marked correctly for AMO standards.  The '75ish Grizzly was not.

If you can, brace the bows with something and measure the string length needed to brace them properly.

Like Jeremy says Dale, the older Bears actually ran near "AMO" standards. I never saw the reasoning in this for strings! I'm not sure if there is a actuall list for lengths they made. I think building a string to fit the parameters of the shooter and the bow seems to work best. Are you making your own? Endless or Flemish? Good shootin, Steve

I am having Sandsquid make me two strings.  I was just trying to decide on the length.  The strings that came on the bows were 5-1/2" shorter than AMO.  I should try to get them strung and measure a brace height.  I have a stringer on back order from 3-Rivers.  I read on one thread that the Kodiak Hunter brace height should be from 7.5 to 8.5 inches.  Can anyone verify the brace heights on these two bows? TTT

They should both be in that brace height range.
A good option would be to get a tillering string (loop on one end, bowyer's knot on the other) and string them up with that to emasure the correct string length to brace 'em in the sweet spot.  That style of string comes in handy if you buy/sell/trade lots of bows too.

Thank you both for your comments.  I will go minus 3" on both bows.  I just hope that that is not too long.  I think it will work.  I'll give it a try.

Dale just from my experience, I would go 4" shorter on the Kodiak and 3" on the Bearcat. And the tillering string is a great aid. Have sansquid make one for you. Good shootin, Steve
