Titeband III, Titebond Polyurathane & Gorilla Glue Polyurathane

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the above 3 glues. I have finally found a wood store that stocks all 3 of these. A professional bowyer here in the UK swears by Gorilla Glue Polyurathane for ELBs. I have seen the write ups about Titebond III, but have never seen anything for Titeband Polyurathane. I am looking for a glue to make a few Bamboo backed Ipe bows. I dont have a hotbox, and don't really have space for one either. Which glue would you choose, and does anyone have any experiance with either polyurathane?

I have used TBIII with good success. I have not used any of the poly glues but have heard from folks that have and they didn't like it(specifically Gorilla Glue) as an adhesive for bow building. It is fine for attacking handle risers but not where bending is involved.

Here's some info on the Titebond poly, I've never used it, but it looks like it's got to cure at 150 degrees for maximum strngth. Even then the failure rate isn't much better than the TB III. If it was me I'd go with the Titebond III

id use the tb3  never tried the poly  as for the gorilla glue throw that crap out  it foams bubbles  has no place in bow makin  in my book  my 2 cents brock

With Gorilla glues, I was under the impression that it utilizes the moisture within the wood as an activating agent.  I may be wrong.  I don't know of many people that use it, and have seen some delams with Gorilla Glue, not sure if the glue was the culprit or not.  I've only used Titebond III, or original Titebond.

Thanks for your response. Spoke to the salesman at the local woodyard today, he says Gorilla Glue uses the moisture in the wood to cure, so the best thing to do, is moisten the laminates a littlw before glue up. He reckons its the best. Could be he wants to make a sale, as it cost 3x more than Titebond III here.

I used Gorilla Glue to bond a rawhide back to a self bow.  I soaked the rawhide in warm water and wt the bow down and then applied the glue.  Put a pressure plate (piece of 1/4 wood) all along the back and bound it down.  Has held up perfectly.  It dried clear with the wood grain showing through the rawhide almost like it was clear glass.

Ya gotta have moisture and pressure.  This is the type of glue used to bond laminated RV walls together.

I am not very experienced with either. Only made 4 backed bows. The only failure with any was the one I used gorilla glue on. No failure with any of the titebonds I've used. Urac 185 is what I like to back with best. Tried some gorilla glue superglue also. Bought 2 bottles at once. Throwed 2 3/4 bottles away. I do like the gorilla duct tape though. JMO  Paul<><

With the TB III do you need to have a rough surface or smooth for best bonding?

Smooth surface with any of the Titebond glues. Urac is good if you have any questions about how well the mating surface match.
