Syntactic Foam ideas?
« on: November 03, 2009, 11:27:00 PM »
I have used syntactic foam in the core of my limbs and have found it to be a pretty amazing laminate. A lot of Olympic bows have been using it in their limbs forever. It is extremely light weight and was first designed to be a vibration dampening product as well as used in floating docs from what I have gathered. The thing is, it isn't cheap and there are different "kinds" of syntactic foam. Everywhere that sells the stuff seem to be advertising different mechanical properties for different applications.

I have been wanting to try to buy some from somewhere (either as a billet or as the liquid you mix yourself and cure in a mold) and cut my own lams from that but am too worried that I would buy something that doesn't have the right properties for this application.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience on how to "do it yourself" with this stuff?

I like this question    :clapper:
