juniper bow
« on: November 16, 2009, 01:06:00 PM »
I have some well seasoned mt. juniper and would like some advice as to using all heartwood or leaving some sapwood on a long self bow. The wood is straight graned and from a 5" log I split about 4 years ago I am new to bowmaking but I have quite a bit of woodworking experience including building a house with a drawknife. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe with juniper you use the sapwood and heartwood. What dimensions are you using for your bow?

Hi Pat. I am just working up the dimensions for the bow. It will be 64-67" 35-40# self bow somewhat like the long ISHI bows. I havent worked out the limb widths or handle yet and am researching that now. I am trying to not fail on my first try but you know how that story goes.     Thanks for the help Pat
