2nd glas laminated bow
« on: November 17, 2009, 05:34:00 PM »
I have some lams of cherrywood from my first glas laminated bow left, so I'm going to use them for my second glas bow. I was thinking of using the following stack...
0.06 backing glas
0.078 cherry tapered 0.002
0.078 cherry parallel
0.078 cherry tapered 0.002
0.06 belly glas
The length of the bow is 66" and is 1.4" wide at the fade out. The riser length is 17". I'm aiming at a draw weight of 50-55@28. Do you think the total stack is ok or do I need more or less stack.

I think it will be light.  Is it gonna be a straight profile, or R/D?

It's medium R/D-profile. What do you suggest that I have to add to get in the desired draw weight ?

I think a bit lite also,my 64" med. d/r is  1.5" at fades with 18" riser and .003" total taper ,it takes .360 to make 50#

You are using thick glass tho, which may increase #s just a bit.

Is the 1st bow off the same form?

I'll let Marty give the stack, his bows are closer to that than mine...

I would use .420 to get 50@28 on my mild R/D bow at 66" NTN.  That is with a 17" riser and .004 total taper.

@ Kenny: The first bow was from the same form but it's only 58" NTN, 1.8" at the fades and it draws 45@28. So it's kinda difficult to compare.

I will take one more lam, then I have a total stack of

0.060 backing glas
0.078 cherry tapered 0.002
0.078 cherry parallel
0.078 cherry parallel
0.078 cherry tapered 0.002
0.060 belly glas
---------------------
0.432 total stack

This way I'm sure not to end up to lite. If it's way to hard I still can make the limbs a bit narrower to get rid of a few pounds.
