next 2 amost done a few questions (pics)
« on: November 29, 2009, 12:23:00 AM »
first 2 questions,  can i twist a endless loop sting like a flemish to raise the brace height?

ok i got some major shock on the recurve.  it is currently siting at a even tiller.  i am going to make it about 1/4 inch positive once i start finish sanding the limbs...  it is also slow.  came in at 63(or so) NTN 45# @ 28" and 50#@30"  felt fine out to 31",  if i try to shoot it further then that i am going to lose an ear or my glasses so i didn't weigh.  so will the positive tiller speed it up?  my tips are 5/8"  strait tapper from 1.45 at the fades.  if i sand the tapper down to 1/2 at the tips am i going to loss alot of weight and have to pike again?, i am not against drilling it and putting on a stabilizer either. anyone ever tired a stabilizer on something like this...  it is wasted energy causing the shock and i would like get back some of that energy, i understand the stabilizer would just give it some where else to waste away.

so here is the final profile and the final riser.

riser did end up looking a bit busy, oh well hope the deer don't mind.

kids bow pictures will go up on that thread.

lengthen your brace height to at least 7 and more than likely 8+ and it should improve shock a good bit. You will loose a good bit of poundage, but trapping it forward would also help reduce shock. That is making the back side more narrow than the belly.
good luck, bigjim

You can twist an endless also, I like about a twist per inch, but when you are in R and D mode,I'd say twist all you want, then measure length for next string.

I think going from 0 to 1/4" tiller will make a very small diff, but that is speculation on my part.

If you narrow the tips, you will lose weight(?how much),but also lose reflex,I'm not sure that will help you.

Have you chronoed it,it is hard to tell speed by eye unless it is a lot(for me anyway)

The stabilizer will absorb shock, but not put more to the arrow IMO

I kinda like the riser!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

i don't have access to crono yet,  i am judging by force of impact and sound.  i when i shooting my long bow i get about an extra 2 inches of penetration in the ethafoam target and i can here the the arrow kinda sing a bit in the air.. i added 100 grains and 2 inches to my arrows so i am now shooting 500 grain, 32 inch, 400 spline feathered arrow i don't see any flip at all.  the long bow has a bit of shook, but this one makes my elbow hurt after a few shoots.  i will bring the brace height up a bit and drill the riser today,  i am going to put pins on this one anyways...  how does knock height effect shock?  i don't have a knock on the sting yet.

jim i will try raising the brace first, its easiest!  thanks for the help guys!

here she is being shoot.  i like the bend, starts in the fades then moves out evenly to the tips out to 30" or so.  that's a 32" arrow..
the picture isn't great the photographer is only 5!

Bow is sweet! Looks like your nock point is a little too high. Might be the pic angle though!
