Do you sand the humps?
« on: December 06, 2009, 02:14:00 PM »
Second try, first try blew, riser to long not enough limb working was my guess. My question is on the back of a silverleaf self bow. The back has high and low spots do you sand flat or just leave the ring as is?

Leave as is, if you sand them flat you may violate a ring.

Thanks Dano, I left as is on the first attempt so, I thought I would ask.

...but you may want to follow those back humps and dips on the belly side. The back and belly should almost parallel each other except for a slight taper towards the tips so the belly should undulate along with the back.  We call these hoop-di-dos in the biz! d;^)

There is a dip close to the edge on one side and not the other of one limb. So this should be on the belly also or only when the dips and humps are across the whole limb. Thanks for the response Pat. One limb of the stave has some reflex. I was trying to match the other end, and cracked the belly. After I took the belly down below the crack the stave seems pretty week.

Pics would really help us see what you are explaining. Any chance for a few pics?

I'll try to figure out pics this weekend might just start a new stave. Gun season went out last Sunday, so I'll be hunting till January 15.  Thanks guys and I'll get back to it when I can.
