super straight grain, thinking about 70" (68 or 69" NTN) and probably 55#.

if the grain is good, you don't need to back hickory. 66"ntn 1 1/2" two thirds length of limb then taper to 1/2" tips, 12" fade to fade, 55# @ 29" is very do-able you can go with less material with a bendy handle bow.

i do love me a riser.
this grain's probably good enough to not use backing, but i'm nervous about takin that step. (first piece of hickory, and it was hard to find)

thanks for the advice on dimensions, that's exactly what i was looking for

how long of a draw length, the reason I love hickory is you can do most any style bow with it, and as long as the grain is reasonably straight, a bow the length you are talking  shouldn't need a backing. if you are worried why not buy a hickory backing, i've built hickory backed hickory r/d bows 62" ntn 50# @ 29". I get my hickory at hardwood suppliers, go to a cabinet shop and ask about their supplier.

29" projected draw
that's good advice, i been considering doing a hickory backing.

the reason i'm putting a riser on it is because someone on this board showed me how to cut a non-bow integrity threatening arrow shelf in, and i LOVE IT. markedly more accurate with it. so of course i need that riser.  plus i like the feel of the grip.

yeah, unless I'm building a flatbow I cut in a shelf, on flat bows I use a floppy rest, works really good. On the other bows I cut in a narrow shelf an add a small peice to the shelf.
