What does stress cracks in fiberglass look like
« on: January 13, 2010, 11:25:00 PM »
Was talking to a friend that asked me about stress cracks. I haven't seen any nor do I have pix. I told him I think they run from side to side, but now I think I gave bad info. Can someone set me straight on this so I can tell him the right info..

The only time I have seen them it wasn't on a bow, but a boat a few years ago.

Stress cracks generally go lengthwise. Any crack across the limb would be a deal breaker - time to make it a wall hanger. Often the old finish has cracks that can be confused with cracks in the fiberglass and these can go across.

Thanx Shaun, the cracks my friend asked about where scratches in the glass. He sanded them out so I'm guessing it was in the finish.
