white glass vs white micarta
« on: January 23, 2010, 10:13:00 AM »
I want to get into riser overlays and also improve the looks of my tip overlays (Thanks again to Marty and Kenny). I am not sure about the white stuff. Is there a preference of material for tips or riser overlays? Is there a "best" thickness to order if only ordering a piece for "decoration" purposes?

I use glass, .030 thick for accents and overlays. It fades out nicely when sanded, micarta doesnt fade as well but both make great tip and riser overlays. Buy a strip of white Core-Tuff, its sanded both sides and comes .030 already.

I agree. It is hard to get Micarta to finish nice. I have done both. Glass is the way to go. You can layer it if you want it thicker as well.
