Rick Ellis Striker bows
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:47:00 AM »
Last week I went down to the Eastern Sportsman show to see all the goodies & mounts from around the world.  A few guys had mentioned that Rick Ellis was in attendance.  I read all the posts about Hope & Faith and decided to stop in to chat, just lookin to learn a little.  Rick was swamped, so I played with some of the bows and decided to return a little later, not wanting to take the man away from serious customers.  Finally got to meet Rick a little later, a nice guy who took the time to go over a few things with a newbie and answer some elementary questions.  Rick asked me to pick the bow I liked the grip on the best.  A quiver of arrows and down to the range we go, first three shots smackin each other.  I am all of a sudden becoming a serious customer, the grip, the draw all felt nice.  Rick being such a nice guy and the price compared to other customs,(the ones I've looked at) I figured what the hell!!  I put my money down and am now waiting on a 3 piece takedown recurve with a Bocote handle, bamboocore limbs with a Red elm veneer .  Give it sort of a brown and tan look. Just wanted to share my two cents on Striker bows.  Joe

rick is a very good friend of mine, he also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. i was a die hard compound shooter and after leaving the dark side , i bought a off the shelf longbow, and strugled with it trying to learn myself. i got more serious and went to visit rick, and spent the better part of the day asking newbie question. and keeping him from makeing his bows the rest of the day. i decide i was going to order on that day a ( stinger ) and now after buying a second one, my wife just ordered a stinger. striker bows are top quality and made with a level of quality beyond compare. guys dont just take my word for it , check out his web site and if you can pay him a visit at his shop. i am a customer for life, if you get the chance shoot one of his bows, , but be warned bring your check book with you.

Ha!  Joe!  That's a repeat of my story!  You won't regret plunking down the dough for the bow.  Mine is sweet.  Congratulations on the purchase.

I went to Denton Hill 3 years ago to try out as many bows as I could before choosing the one I would buy. For me, the Striker bows shot smoother, faster and more accurate than any of the several others I tried. I put my money down on a Striker Slapstik. I'm so satisfied with it that I've had no desire since then to even get tempted to buy another bow. It's also a real pleasure doing business with Rick Ellis.

I got to spend a week with Faith. If all of his bows are as sweet as that one I don’t think you could go wrong. If I were in the market for a new bow I definitely would consider his......stabow

I too had the good fortune to meet Rick again at the show and shoot his bows.  I was really impressed with his three piece take down longbow and his handle forward one piece recurve felt like magic in the hand.  If I didn't just buy a new to me Morrison I would have gave him the $100 deposit.  His handle forward bow at 56" with the special core was surprisingly smooth at my 29" draw I was really impressed.  Ohio sure does produce some great bowyers!

Tim, which bow are you shootin?

Steve, Rick had a gentleman helping him at the show, his name slips my mind right now, but he also was a friend of Ricks.

I went to the deer classic in Bloomington, IL last weekend. Byron F. was there shooting. I met Rick Ellis at his booth. I had heard good things about his bows and was thinking about buying one. He had me find a grip sytle by picking up every bow he had there 2 or 3 times. I picked on up on a takedown longbow that instantly felt PERFECT. I gave him $100 deposit for a 58", 51-52# take-down longbow with action bamboo cores. I previously has a 60# Bear Super Kodiak. Rick's bows I shot were all faster and much much quieter than my bear was. They shoot very smooth. I can't wait to get it. he should have it done for the Cloverdale Nationals!

ps. i also bought my wife a slapstick. gray limbs w/pink and white grip. (Her hand will cover up the pink)

I have to sell my motorcycle now. haha. I can't wait to get the bows!
