I usually shoot for 1 1/8"-1 1/2" above center.I recently put one 3"+ above center almost unknowingly. I grabbed the bow a the point that felt most balanced and it turned out to be that high. It shot quite well from there. later dropped it down to 1 1/2" above.
I've been looking at a couple sites to view there bows and get some ideas.I've noticed that a couple seem to have the shelves cut quite a bit higher than 1-1 1/2" .It could be the photos but when I scale the bows and find center ,it appears maybe some are  higher .
Let me know what your experiences have taught you works best. Thanks

I've gone from center to 2 1/2" above and they all shoot well if tillered/timed properly.

if I do put one on my bows... And I have only made four with a shelf, I put them two inches above the center.

On my first selfbow I tried rests at various points up and down the handle whilst shooting a relatively light arrow.  I settled on the spot that the bow seemed to like the best but it shot well from all spots.

thanks ,do you have a formula for tiller change as you go up with the shelf or is it trial and error?
