(european) beltsander advice needed!
« on: March 22, 2010, 09:12:00 AM »
Hey guys,

It's been a while since I started a new topic here, but I really want to get back to business  ;)

A while ago my small handhelt beltsander broke. It was a fine one, pretty powerfull and easy to clamp into a workmate.  Days before it died I had bought another one, a 375W ferm stationary. This should replace the bosch handhelt, but it wasn't even comparable to the bosch. Just plain week. Could stop it with my bare fingers without hurting myself!

so I gotto get myself a new one. I've been looking around, found some interesting options, so I would like some advice here.

one option is the Huvema Favorit 150BDS. Pretty expensive, 400watts and looks pretty sturdy. here's a link:

another option is the cheap Güde BTS 4000. Seems okay, sounds powerfull at 650watts, but I'm afraid of the quality due the low pricing, and don't know too much about the availability either. One's for sale on a dutch auction site for 80€. Any experiences with it?

Any other recommendation is more than welcome. I want power, but it should be able to run on 230V. Don't like to spend over 400€ either.

thanking in advance,

Nick

Hey Nick,
That Huvema is comparable to the Grizzly 6X48 belt 9inch disc combo sander that many of us use. It's down on horsepower a tiny bit from the Grizzly, but it should run well on the higher voltage (fewer amps drawn). It would be a good choice for you. You may want to get on some power tool forums and ask around or search for customer reviews before spending your hard earned cash though. I would recommend you purchase some Alumina Zirconia (blue) planer belts for it. They are agressive cutting and last a long time.

BTW, did your old hand held sander die or did the belt just break?  If you haven't checked you may want to.
