Snake skins and tru oil question
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:01:00 PM »
I was wondering if tru oil would effect TB111 when gluing on skins. Also wanted to dye the back of the bow a darker color to make the skins stand out. What type of dye and does it need to go on before or after the tru oil.
Always strive to do the right thing. Don't beat yourself down when you mess up. Ask for forgivness and keep on keeping on.

Both should go on before the Tru-Oil. You can scrape and sand the old Tru-Oil off, dye the wood add the skins and reapply the Tru-Oil.
After you put the dye on and it is completely dry, add a thin coat of TBIII over the back and let it cure completely. This will act as a vapor barrier for when you glue the skins on. If you don't do this first the moisture from the glue and skins will be sucked into the dry bow wood.
Make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes!
