Does anybody know bowyer Todd Scherinki
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:21:00 PM »
Does anybody know of a bowyer named Todd Scherinski. I bought a short little takedown recurve at Denton Hill this past week. I was told it was made by Todd Scherinski. The bow is about 48" long. I was wandering if he still was making bows?

Hello Ishi..that looks like my old bow!  seriously!  48"...your brace height looksa tad  low but Todd was an extremely talented bowyer that gave it in 98. He lived in Greenup Il and his father was a bowyer for the old Groves company, hence his influence. Todd bow design was radical. His recurves are tack drivers and extremly fast and he used just plain maple cores in most. Todd was on the cutting edge of experimenting with carbon after Jack Harrison.

Over 6-8 years Todd made T/D recurves and then in his last 3 years he focused on Longbows...........His Challenger 2 piece longbow still is arguebly one of the fastest longbows out there. If you can find one...buy it....I would not hesitate putting my money up against any Adcock or A &H bow today and bet on speed. His design amd bow knowledge on how limbs released was extensive. I spent many a night on the phone with him talking about bow design and everything else   :)

Last time i saw Todd was at Cloverdale in 93' i tied for 1st in the Recurve with his 64". He was extremely proud. His recurves are easy to tell for most have his trademark herringbone inlay ( ebony /maple). I taught myself how to make that inlay and now carry it over to my own line of recurves called Swamprooter  to honor the man i thought so much as a genius bowyer that hung it up too early IMO. Deadlines and a 2nd ending marriage rocked him hard.

Your bow is his 48" model. I missed 16 turkeys over 2 years with mine and sold it to a friend in AZ!!!...I had too sets of limbs and the light limbs a friend of mine pulled back 31" and they collapsed..it was kind of sharp watching!  They are forced curved out at about 26" in that 48" lenght bow. Todd used expoxy or fullerplast on finish.

It's weird Two Tracks alerted me of this thread because for the first time in 13 years , i strung up Todds Challanger 68" longbow and shot it in my back yard last night..........thats freaky.. I own 9 of his bows..i grin and boast i have the largest collection of Todd Schrinsky bows in the world!..Biggie found me one of his Dads years ago on **** and surprised me with it! sweet.

In closing, your 48" is neat little bow for a 26" draw. it will be on the loud side due to excessisve string slap. i think i shot a 8.5" brace height.now if you can find his 60" or 64" recurve...........BUY THEM.........or any of his Longbows......my Challenger longbow is 214fps AMO....if i remember coreectly . 540 grains at 60# at 30" draw.. My 64" recurve shot a 2317 at 64# at 204fps....You will not find a faster bow in his 60" and up bows.Your 48" well lets say it's neat to look at. His 54" was alittle better shooter...if that bow is in the 60# range then it is my old bow, maybe....you want to sell it?   :)  hope this helps

Hi Joebuck Thanks for all the info. Your right about the brace height being low. That was the sting that was on it when I bought it. I made a new string today.Much better now. After I bought it at Denton Hill the guy camped across from me told me he had two bows like it. He told me the makers name as this bow is unmarked. What did these bows sell for new. I paid $60.00 for it. I think I'm going to hang on to it for a while and see if I can shoot a deer with it.

I think I paid $375 new in 96'.  It's pretty sensitive on hand torque. I would shoot a high wrist for sure. Actually none of todd's bow shot low wrist . For 60 dollars........you did great....Todd never marked any of his bows except several I have and a couple of others.  He probably made less than a 100. .what are the weight on those limbs? I had the only limbs over 55 I believe . Mine were 60 something
