Saturday, I went to Sam Harper's house and brought a few bows.  He showed me his shop and some methodology.  I showed him a couple bows including one I thought was ruined, but asked for ideas how to fix.  By the time I left Sam had me all fixed up. The bow is shown below, and is the same one I had mentioned in response to PZees post about a hinge.  I had hinged this bow in the upper fade, badly. Sam suggested that I go ahead and tiller till the hinge was worked out, then just add another layer of bamboo flooring, that way the new belly could be tillered to do final adjustments. It worked;the bow shoots well and looks good. My only disappointment is that after tillering out the hinge, and then adding some weight back with the tri-lam, I still missed weight.  Its in the 40lb range and I was shooting for 50lb. Still, I owe Sam thanks, as he showed me how to save it. Now I have a 40lb bow, instead of a broken or 10lb bow.
 
Riser is Osage, with Maple and Paduak accent.
 
Tips are double knocked with Maple and Paduak overlays.

Full brace, its a fistmele, I just couldn't take the picture and put my hand up there. The string is 14 strands of B-50, black/yellow flemish twist.

Unstrung profile. The bow is 68" tip to tip. Boo/Ipe/Boo. I originally glued in 2" of reflex, it took about 1/2 inch of set that show as deflex, and 1 1/2" of relex remains.

Well, long story short, I shot this bow about 50 times tonight and its real fast for being only 40lbs. It proves you can fix a hinge, and still salvage a bow with a decent draw weight. Thanks, Sam, I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with you, hope we can get to that glue up and shoot some next time.

Good job!  If you wanted, you could cut about 1 1/2" off each end and make that 50#.

Loren, that's awesome!  I love happy endings.  I agree with Apex.  You could cut the tips a little shorter to bring the weight up if you want.  Or just be happy you got a shooter and start making another one.  As I'm sure you've figured out, it isn't hard to find a home for a bow.

I'm free this Sunday if you want to help me glue up my next bow.  It's so much easier with two people!  We can do some shooting, too.
