a short osage bow
« on: July 28, 2010, 08:01:00 PM »
I almost have this one done. It needs a touch up of sanding and then a few coats of finish. It's 54ntn and 42@26  has a small amount of snake. Four inch handle 1 1/2 fades. Widest point is one inch taperd to 1/2in. @ tips.  It took and inch and a half roughly of set and has about an inch of string follow that returns after rest. I will get some pics up.

Very nice Dave.  Was that that short little stave you had on the ground at mojam?

no brad, this one wasn't @ mojam. This was a practice run for that guy. That one will be a d/r sinewed bow just a bit wider.  This one was wider and heavier until it lifted a splinter and this is what I ended up with. There is still a bad spot in one limb, but I just left it alone to save weight.

Cool little bow, Dave. It don't take much osage to make a good hunting bow!

Looks good Dave.  Ya got any extra staves layin' around?  I tried and failed on my first one.  Thought I was doin' good after finally able to chase a ring the whole length.

I guess I should've watched you more to pick up some pointers at MOJAM.  It was just too hot for me.

You seem to be knockin' 'em out now.  Like the little bows, and love the "snakey".  Good job.
