Tillering opinions for newbie.
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:25:00 PM »
This is my first attempt at a bow. It is an oak board bow backed with linen. I would love some opinions about the tiller before I do  anything else to it.

Sorry, I'm not much better with technology than I am with tillering. Here are the pics...I hope.

Wow,looks good and you are very close.Just my opinion but looks like you need just a little bit off left limb mid to fadeout but if thats your bottom limb I would be careful not to take too much off.
Are you at your finished pundage? either way, looks like a shooter.

I agree, it looks good.  I would scrape the outer 1/3 if both limbs and the left limb is bending a little too much in the inner 1/3 (stay away from that for now). I also measure out around 6-7" from the center and make a mark on both limbs. From that mark measure the distance to the string, you can then figure the top limb from the bottom limb or adjust the tiller if you need. I always make the bottom limb approx 1/4" positive.
My 2 cents
Mark

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'm not sure what the draw weight will be. Probably light. I am trying to get the tillering down before I worry about hitting a certain weight. I will weigh it and post some pics when it's finished.

Looks pretty good. Make a tillering gizmo and all your bows will come out great. Look at this link.
