anyone has a spare LH bow for loan
« on: December 19, 2010, 03:23:00 PM »
Hi everyone
normally I dont do this but was wondering if anyone has a spare LH bow (55@27) they made and dont like or a spare bum around bow or something ..I dont like to ask but after talking it over with my girl..she suggested I should ask since I no longer own any bows due to having to sell them this year to help on bills..a little back story..I got injured on the job this past Jan and destroyed my leg/ankle to the point of amputation and in the process I dislocated my shoulder and tore muscles in my back and several other problems..spent several months in hospital and rehab and then had several more surgerys while rehabing..coming out having bills piled up..had to sell about 95% of my toys and such to help out with family since worksman comp only pays so much and fighting with SS and being denied for help because of my age..everything just didnt work out like it should in my therapy and rehabs..things just worser due to misdiagnosis and such..tried several times in summer and fall to build a board bow and bows from limbs and such just to shoot and keep my mind off things but no luck as I dont have that skill(leatherwork and other little skills I have but no bowmaking skills)  gave up spring season and fall season since I basically live in wheelchair and cant walk right now..all friends that I thought was friends kinda walked out since I cant get around so I cant borrow from anyone. Im jusst going nuts here ....had my last surgery 2 weeks ago and hopefully things will work now with my leg being fused and even with that there was complications..I should be able to walk again starting in 3 to 4 months but I was hoping to be able to shoot in the meantime just to do something..I cannot afford a bow for at least a year but was hoping someone had a spare one to loan a few months or so so I wont go crazy but if its not in the cards thats ok...figure I would ask..thanks all for reading this..I dont want people to think me as a bum or loser for asking..just was hoping and hopefully one day I can pay it forward back to someone in need...thanks again

Sorry to hear about the year you have had. You have been around here long enough to know that no one will think any less of you for asking for a bit of help. The spirit of brotherhood around here is what keeps me coming back, along with everything else there is to gain from this site. I don't have a bow to send your way at the moment but am working on a stave and if I can get a shooter out of it, will send it on to you.

I have had several people confuse me for you because of the similarity of our names and would be more than happy to make a real connection between us.
Keep the wind in your face and the sun at your back.

Art, You have a PM.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Hey Art,
I have to ask.. do you really want to be shooting a 55# bow with those injuries?  I am just thinking if you are having arm and back issues you might want something a bit lighter for just plunking to help get the muscles back into it.
I have severe arthritis, so I don't really build anything over 40# for myself or it just hurts to much.
With that being said.. I accidentally made a left handed 52" fiberglass re curve that comes in at around 30# at 28".  If you think this might work well for you, I would be willing to finish it up real fast and send it your way!
God gave you hands, use them

WOW..thank you for the responses and PMs..will awnser them tommorow..head is overloaded right now..but to awnser a question posted above..I used to shoot 65To80# bows for many years and with the injuries I have had and still have..I figured out that with my actual slightly less than 27" draw..I feel I could handle to 55# maxed but thats with working out and physical theraphy..thats what Im hoping but if 50# is all I can do then be it..would be happy to just shoot..I do have some wood shafts and a few cabons left that I figure i could make work..thank you everyone

Pic one and I'll get it in the mail Art.

Fiberglass LB 47#,50#,55#  1 piece
50# 3 piece LB

Have some Bamboo Backed from 44-53#

I'd also suggest like Bradford did to start out a lot lighter than you used to shoot. I had 2  surgeries and a broken collar bone in 8 months on the same shoulder. I had to drop from 60-64 # down to 40# 2 years post op I'm back to 50#

You got arrows?

Good luck with everything!  I know even with my arthritis and days that I hurt, I still get some solace shooting my bow.

Great it worked out for you!

thank you..PV (Paul) loaned me one of his beautiful bows..I got to shoot 3 arrows out of it today..couldnt do more as I wasnt supposed to be out of bed..it has got my blood flowing again..this whole year has been depressing and frustrating but after those 3 shots today has lessen that feeling immensely..good to know that there are still kind people who are willing to loan a complete stranger a bow to shoot..now I got to get better and sell a few things and save some money and purchase a bow..thats 1 of my goals next year to own a bow for my self and to able to shoot and possibly hunt again..as I missed it so much
thanks to everyone who offered a bow..I really appreciate it alot

Hey Art, I know that you said that you have arrows around and such but if you find that you don't have enough or the right type feel free to PM me I make my own and have probably near 200 laying around that I'd be more then happy to lend you or make some to fit the bow.
