Juniper?
« on: December 31, 2010, 10:14:00 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm a new member as of today. I'm in a little town called Bozeman MT. Just got started on bows this last summer after making a bow out of a willow branch for the kid...It shot an arrow but I knew instantly that I could make something better and faster. And the obsession began! In the past couple of months I have made quite a few board bows (mostly of hickory) but I'm starting to get interested in cutting my own staves. We have tons of juniper around here and from what I understand it can make a decent bow. If anyone has some experience or advice it would be much appreciated, as I have never used juniper or a fresh cut stave before!

Do a search for Ed Scott on youtube.  He makes amazing bows out of juniper.

I am in your same position. I have been cutting staves of juniper and drying sinew since last spring. I was hoping to get started real soon. I wished I had some advice but I am just starting. Good luck.
