hill style questions
« on: January 01, 2011, 02:14:00 AM »
i love the look of the hill style bows. i know a hill style bow has a short square riser, deep limb core and narrow straight limbs that are slightly whip ended.are there any measurement guidelines you follow to qualify your bow as a "hill style" what is the length of the riser? what is the limb width? how deep are the limbs?

Don,
If you're talking glass backed bows, the riser is from as short as 12" to as long as 16".  The width is 1-1/8" to 1-3/8" wide tapering to the tips.
The grip is usually 1-7/8" deep or a bit less.
Core thickness is dependent on draw weight desired.
Bingham's is the best place to start your journey.
They have all the plans, dimensions and materials figured out for sale.
Hope this helps.

yeah, i made the binghams 3 piece recurve and longbow as well as a boo backed osage and a couple pyramid bows. my journey started a few years back lol. i don't think the one piece binghams qualify as hill style though. the risers on a hill bow are not 12" or 16". they are short. i'm talking about bows like the ones dick in seattle makes. his are hill style. the risers are short and the limbs are deep and narrow. as i'm typing this i'm saying to myself why didn't i just pm dick in seattle.

Good idea....Dick will help you.
By the way, my Hill's all measure 12" give or take a fraction in the riser length.  Best of luck with your builds.

chupa, you are correct and i am wrong about the riser length. i look at the risers and forget that it's measured fade to fade. they don't seem that long.
