Making a my first boo backed lam.  First lam period actually.  What wood would be the best for a core?  Would hickory or maple work?

Are you making a tri-lam or a backed bow? If its a trilam then hickory or maple either one will work for the core. If its a backed bow with one belly lam then I would go with ipe or osage.

Osage for core and belly. The Dryad Hunter has two lams of Osage with a boo backing. I made one similar using Mikes chapter in TBB 4? I believe. Awesome shooting bow. Very quick.

Although ipe and osage will make a fine core lam their physical weight would not be optimal. Lighter weight wood like ash, maple or even hickory would be a better choice for a core lam. IMO.
