mr keenan, i haven't commented on this bow yet. its awesome. ive been a big fan of your work for some time now. i got to ask, is mt mahogany slang for juniper, cause thats what the core looks like to me. absolutely fabulouse backing. my freind and fellow tg member had some catfish skins and had wished he knew that i wanted to back a bow with some kind of skin. sir you have peaked my interest and im very intreaged. once again you have set a very high benchmark of acheivement and craftsmanship. ruddy

Guys, thank you for such kind compliments, This bow is actually a gift back to a close friend.  Last spring, he heard I was going through some rough stuff, between my surgeries and family members as well. He built and sent me a beautiful bow to cheer me up. This is a thank you.  :bigsmyl:   To Blacktail. I just let the cat out of the bag.  :bigsmyl:

Brooke, Not a juniper. It's a true mahoagny hard wood. Creamy sapwood and dark brown heart wood.

Sea bass. Hope to see you down at the Classic.

Semo, you and any fellow bowyers are welcome any day

Thanks Steve, here is some info that a friend found for Mountain mahogany.
Mt Mahoghany (cercocarpus ) is a small tree/ bush that grows at higher elevations out west. The largest ones I have seen are about 8 inches in dia. I have seen it in eastern oregon, and all the way down to SW utah. I've made tool handles , foreshafts, and a boomerang out of it. Incredibly hard- s.g. is about  .90 . hard to find a big enough piece for a bow- i searched a grove near glass butte for hours and came up with a piece about 45 inches long with knots all over. never seen it in WA.
