Lam tapering

I know its been asked on here probably a hundred times but how far from the fades should I start tapering?  I know I've read it on here before but I can't find it and I can't remember.  Also which lam do I taper, the core or the belly. I'm working on my first lam and was gonna do it all parallel but its a reflex deflex and I read on here that parallel wouldn't hold the shape.  Any advice is greatly appreciated and sorry to ask the same ol question thats probalby been posted on here a lot.

D, Maybe you can give some more details. What type of bow? Glass laminated. All wood?

I don't think having a tapered lamination would make any difference to the glue up and the R/D.
I would do the core, but either would work. In a glass bow the tapered lamination tapers something like .002 " or .001"  the whole length.

In a all wood bow it's whatever your trying to accomplish

In a glass bow putting the tapered laminations in and the outside edge taper of the limbs is the formula that give you the tiller.

In the wood bow tiller is using the same idea but wood is remove from the belly to bring in the tiller.

These are my thoughts, look forward to more knowledgeable thoughts.

Sorry I made it such a broad question.  Its a bamboo backed tri lam R/D with hickory for all the lams.  I was thinking it was .002 but do I start tapering right where the fades stop or a few inches out.  I do apologize if i'm not making my question clear.  I can just get off my lazy butt and look it up. haha thanks anyway guys I really do appreciate all the help I get on this site

I haven't seen any post on exactly what your asking. I don't think you can go wrong leaving just an inch or so thicker out of the fades. I've wished often in my learning curve for more wood thickness at the fades. It will give you more leeway for tillering.
Post some pictures when you get it finished.

On my glass d/r s I go a couple inches past the fades to start the taper on the edge of the limbs. I can always take it off if I can help the bend. But can't put it back on!
