Great buildalong John, I think your video looked very profesional.

Seems like to me that would be a sweet form to bend tips with, with that "pocket" for the tip cut into the base of the caul. Neat stuff, John.    :clapper:

John, Keep em coming!!!

I'm admiring that caul myself.

I finished shoveling this morning then looked at the shop roof so I did some more shoveling. No bow building this weekend. Got shoveler's shoulder!LOL

Very graphic, John. The "strap" makes good sense. I can't explain how very much this ol' hoss is enjoying this set of videos.

When you finish this one, I can't help but think that many of us would benefit from a similar one on the stave to bow of a Osage longbow, if you feel up to it.
(Or on any subject you might choose - I visualize a whole series of valuable "training aids" like this. I know - easy for me to say. Sorry)

Bernie, believe me, I have plans for more.  It's actually a bit easier than doing a photo buildalong since I don't have to edit photos or type all that stuff I am saying.

I'm just waiting for my vids to go viral.  I'm wanting 1,000,000 views.  I'm up to 253 on Part 1   :)

well john, i guess im a contibutor to the future virus, cause ive watched them all a dozen times already. ive also been lookin at your recurve form, and have been wondering why the radius is short and sharp.. im also just watching to see where you go with it and awaiting the outcome.learning alot from you and trying to figure out how i can apply it so early in my bow building. lookin foward to more from you. ruddy

This is great timing for me to view these. I have my first osage roughed out and started to tiller. I can see that I need to heat straighten the limbs and might even try to do a slight recurve tips on them. Thanks for the instruction. I would not have thought of chasing a ring on the belly to help avoid splittering.

broketooth, There was a bowyer named Brad Merkel "Littletree" that used a recurve about like that.  I made that form to try and mimic his bows.

Excellent tutoral John. I'm sure this will help lots of folks that "just aren't sure" about this process.

John, when you point that out, I guess it would be easier. I see your "aims". Bless your heart, and may the vids go viral in double-quick time.

I'll tell you, much of my time in the MC was spent as an instructor (of one subject or another). I am here to say that each vid is short, sweet, and to the point, with never a feeling of being "talked down to" yet very explanatory and understandable. One would be hard pressed to find ones that reached the goals of demonstration/instruction better.
