Whats up with high performance strings?
« on: February 17, 2011, 01:16:00 AM »
It is my understanding that some bows can't handle high performance strings.  I recently built a glass/wood laminated longbow with a mild reflex/deflex design with tip overlays made of several tropical hardwoods.  How do I determine if the bow can use a high performance string?  What are the potential risks of these types of strings with the type of bow I'm using?

What are some good common options for high performance strings?  Fast Flight??

What are some good common options for standard strings?  B50?

Any help is appreciated . . . MK

MK I don't see a problem with your bow using Fast flight etc. If your limb tips are thick enough to keep the string from cutting into the limbs.
On older bows the FF string would sometimes tear up the string grooves.

Since fast flight etc. doesn't stretch much all the energy is left for the bow to use in the arrow. I don't like to shoot light arrows from traditional bows especially with high performance strings.

I suppose most of the energy of the bow is used to propel the arrow or is manifested as hand shock?  Thanks for getting back to me.
