One for the Kids
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:43:00 PM »
My kids have these cheap store bows and shoot all the time in the shop with me.  I figured it was time to build a good bow for them.

This is a board bow of red oak.
48" ntn
15# +/- @ 20"

At the end of tillering, it started developing a slight fray which led to a small start of a crack on the lower limb.  I thought I would try and save it so it got glued and them tight wrapped in cord with hopes to save it.  As you will see in the full draw shots, it won't be long before this bow decides to go.  It should probably just go up on the failure rack now.

Sorry for the bad pics. It was with cell phone and usually takes better shots then that.

The backing is landscaping felt.  That stuff you put under your mulch and stuff to keep the weeds out.  It works great and almost has a carbon look to it.  This stuff is more of a fabric soft kind.

I had to give it a shot.

I also love to make bows for kids, never tried a wood one, I don't have the skill.  I also have to try a shot or two, before giving them to the kids, I can't help myself. LOL.  Too bad about the splinter that is a very fine looking bow, you did a fine job.

Good job overall, too bad about the splinter. Maybe when you start another just make the area out of the fades a little wider. I like to wrap that area even with out a splinter for insurance on these little bows.
Great looking bow love to see the kids with their bows.
