crack in glass
« on: February 28, 2011, 09:58:00 AM »
I've got a crack in the glass where the limb attaches to the riser
( takedown recurve ) it extends out beyond the riser about an inch.  it's about 3" total.  do you think super glue might stop it? thank you

Pictures? Home built bow? If it's only in the glass the super glue will help but the question is why it is splitting.

I'd be tempted to put a overlay of fiberglass large enough to cover the area and a little past. Would have to do both limbs.

Fix I dont know? Cause may be over tightening the t/d bolts. I did the same years ago on a t/d I had.

If you dont seal the inside of the bolt and alignment pin holes, humidity will swell the wood and crack the glass.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

i had a linear crack in my glass on my takedown. what i did was take a 1/8 drill bit and drilled a hole right where the crack ended and filled the hole with epoxy. it stopped the crack from getting any longer. it's been several years since i fixed it. no problems yet.
