This bow was supposed to be my Swap bow, but I changed the length from what I normally build and my calculations for total stack were a bit off and it ended up too light for the intended recipient.
My Dad use to be a heck of a shot with a compound and really into 3Ds. It was rare if he didn't place at local 3Ds. He gave it all up a few years ago and sold his bows and treestands when his hunting grounds were baught and posted, and those that weren't posted were strip mined. He has had a bit of an interest in trad bows since I started making them, but hasn't quite taken the plunge. Well, coming in light on this bow makes it the perfect bow for him to finally jump in and experience the joys of traditional archery. He still probably won't hunt with it, but it will be nice to have him back out on the 3D range with me. I'll present it to him for his birthday next weekend.
Here's the bow:
42# @ 28". Some beautiful Walnut lams from kennym under clear glass with an actionboo core. The riser is maple that really looks like a mix between curly and quilted. I dyed it very lightly just to bring out the figure in the wood. Normally I would add a leather wrap to the grip, but the wood looked so nice I didn't want to cover it up. I'll let Dad decide if he wants it wrapped.
The pics really don't do the walnut lams justice, but it's raining like he!! outside right now so I'm stuck inside with poor lighting. I'll try to get some pics of Dad shooting it next weekend.
I just placed an order with kennym for some more lams to make my Swap bow which will be similar to this one. I just hope I hit my recipient's weight this time.
Thanks for looking.
