First bow complete!
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:54:00 PM »
Just finished up my first successful bow (2nd attempt). Was a bow for my son 46" ntn, 20"@20lbs. Its a little stiff for him but something he can grow into. His draw is only about 17". This was my first bow, string, handle wrap and all the above so it was a great learning experience. The upper limb had a great deal of natural decurve to it which made tillering a bit of a challenge. (I may go back with some heat just for the added experience) Anyhow I decided to use it despite the curve as a learning tool, plus it was a scrap piece of hickory I had laying around so why not? Now onto the next one!

Don s,

I probably used improper terminology here but essentially the upper limb had a 2" natural curve to it already and the bottom limb was straight. (the curve was towards the belly side of bow)

NY, I was wondering the age a draw length of your son then decided I shoul read your post...always a good idea.  :)   I wouldn't heat the limb if I were you. You would have to retiller and I think it looks fine the way it is. You will have a chance to learn about heat bending I'm sure in the future. The term you are looking for is deflex.

Looks like a proud boy you got there!
