Second bow (pics)
« on: March 24, 2011, 12:37:00 PM »
Just thought I'd show off what you guys helped me to build.

Linen backed red oak board bow with walnut accents in the riser.

Now I know that the flipper rest probably isn't "traditional" enough for some, but I just love the darn things. I designed the arrow pass around it.

full draw. I couldn't seem to get a good full draw pic outside, so I came in.  ;)

I really like the way you did the handle.. looks like a more modern fiberglass bow but with just the board limbs...

Very cool!  I might have to try that.  I have only been building fiberglass bows.
God gave you hands, use them

Nice bow. Be careful you don't get that string behind your ear.;^)

Stats: 70" nock to nock, 35# at 28". I made it a little light because, I only intended for it to be a fun recreational shooter, not a hunting bow.

Bradford, funny you should mention it. I looked to my old store-bought glass backed recurve for inspiration when I was shaping the handle.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Tim, I think that is one of the nicest looking board bows that I've seen. I wouldn't have even known it was a board bow if you hadn't mentioned it. Nice job!

I also shot with a flipper rest for quite some time before I discovered the forgiveness of beaver. Now I really like my beaver rest.
Use whatever works for you cause your the one who will be shooting it, not us.

real nice job, looks professional.  35lbs is a weight you can shoot all day and still raise a cup to your lips afterwards. good job man.
