Wenge Riser Finished
« on: May 17, 2011, 04:55:00 PM »
We talked awhile ago about how difficult wenge is to finish because of the porosity and I have struggled in the past but not anymore. However I hate the way the dust makes me feel so I doubt I'l use it that often. Anyway here is what I did. I use Krystal finished and I got some level sealer from them also after trying to fill with the finish and it sure helped. So here is what I did. I sanded my riser with up to 320 then brushed on a coat of level sealer with a foam brush and sanded it back off with 150 (?) I repeated it two more times then I sprayed on a coat and sanded it down with 220, I sprayed on a coat and sanded it with 320 then again and finally with 400 and it came out excellent . I also have been adjusting my shape with each bow and I think I like it.

Looks Great !!!!!

Just finished one with Wenge. I use Krystal as well. Put 10 + coats of CA to fill and still didn't all of the pores. Don't put superglue over your first coats of Krystal    :knothead:

Looks beautiful.  Happy for you that you figured out a way to fill the pores.  It really worked well for you, the end result is stunning.

That looks great! I use the thunderbird high solids sealer and have very good luck with it. I brush on several thick coats then sand it all off.
