Is hickory a good choice for a riser in a lam bow?
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:28:00 PM »
Still thinking about building a bow.
I know hickory has some really nice properties for a riser wood (heavy, absorbs vibes, tough)

I've read recently that it doesn't glue well.
That would be a problem if I wanted to sandwich it in a lam bow.

Anyone think hickory is hard to glue?

Thanks

Thanks everyone.

I was a bit worried after reading a couple places it doesn't glue well.

I wish people that say that sort of thing would give a "why not" explanation.

Thanks again!

Hickory is real porus and can take on moisture. So you need to let it set in your shop for awhile and get aclamated to your humidity. Smooth on works well.
