What a Bow!
« on: May 27, 2011, 02:58:00 PM »
I recently was presented a bow made by Stiks-n-Strings (Kris McDonald).  I just had to share pics of this beautiful hand crafted bow.

I hope Kris will join in to tell you more about the woods and specs of the bow itself.

Here are some pics -- they don't even come close to do justice of this outstanding crafted bow.

Nice job Stiks! I like the smokey grey color, that one is a hunting machine for sure. I really like dark natural colors in a bow, maybe that's the reason for my attraction to snake skins?

Congrats Larry, lookin forward to seeing your first critter with that outfit.

This bow was my first molly. I had to ask Larry to post pics of it because I realized I didn't take any and I know how you guys love pics.

I built it out of a hackberry stave that I got from John Scifres. Heat treated the belly, sinew backed her and dressed her up with a little copperhead skin on the levers. The tips and arrow rest are blesbok horn. it is 61.5" tip to tip (I think, it's close to that) it came in at 49# at 28".

I took it to the TN Classic and shot a bit with her and she was shooting great. Didn't really plan on giving it away but then again I never do. I always find the right owner for the bows I build. It's just like the bow says "hey you need to give me to so and so".

Well I knew I was going to be seeing some tradgangers at the classic but didn't know Larry was going to be there. After meeting him and talking with him and the rest of the gang a bit while Larry sit and talked with my wife we all went our own direction and headed to our campsites. I was walking through the camp area carrying this bow and she started talking so I went and tracked down Larry and the wonderful pleasure of sending her on her way.

Enjoy Larry, I know you'll give her good home.

P.S these guys are gonna want to see full draw pics and will hound you until they get'em.

The back and sides of the limbs where stained with black alcohol dye sanded lightly and faded into brown on the belly.

Stiks,

This is one bow that has found a permanent home.  She is not only a beautiful masterpience, she shoots like a dream.

Looking forward to seeing you and your wife again next year.  Ya'll have to be there so I can give her the things we spoke about.  Since I'll be on my way to chase Lizards in a couple of months, I'll have some good coverings that will make great trad gear.
