Help with draw weight
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:41:00 PM »
The bow I just glued up seems a bit light by the way it is flexing.  Does anyone have a way to test draw weight before filing string grooves?  I'd rather know the weight before I glue on tip overlays in case I need to shorten it.  It is a R/D 66" longbow.  Any help is appreciated.  MK

I cut the grooves and check , then glue on overlays. Or if it seems stiff, cut em a couple inches long....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I never tried it but, I wonder if tying a set of temporary nocks on like are used on some wooden bows.  One could shorten it without cutting in nocks, and adjust as needed.  Might be worth trying.

That's what I was wondering, Jess. Worth a shot.

I think with a 66 incher-you can either go with the temporary nocks or cut some in without overlays.
