Fiberglass?

Is there a reason that bowyers don't use fiberglass cloth? I come from a boat building background where we start with a roll of cloth and fill it with epoxy and I was wondering why you laminated bow makers all seem to use preformed strips of already glued fiberglass... Is there a big difference between the two and does it affect the way a bow shoots?

Sorry for the strange question but its been bugging me for a while now...

i don't know a lot about the cloth and such but i would think that there is a consistancey problem there as the preformed is already at a desired thickness and the cloth would not be as it would be softer and the preformed is ridgid and the other is not kinda like kiln dried wood and natral dried wood is my take on it there might be greater reasons i don't know about take care jake

I think the strands mostly run lengthwise on the preformed.

That would mean approx 1/2 the cloth wouldn't be adding any stiffness,just weight.
