Whats a good CA glue?

Seems like most are gels.  I like loktite gel for most things but sometimes I need the super thin stuff for gap filling or getting in places that are tough.

I have been using the original krazyglue, and use my insulin needles to put in tight spots.  Its water thin.

Figured there are better out there.

Don't know about better but if you want thin then check and see if Wal-mart carries a 4 pack of super glue for a buck. Stuff doesn't get any thinner than that. And it's held everything I've used it on.......Art

try the model shops- they have a whole range of, thin, med, and thick. and really high quality stuff. only problem i had is that the volumes were too large- and did dry out over time-
but ca glue is like anything else in life - i geuss- you get what you pay for- within reason of course

I bought mine at a pet shop. Its used to repair aquariums. Its called CA Glue right on the bottle and came in 3 thickness'.

The brand called "Hot Stuff" has been my favorite for years... but I recently tried some of the Franklin Brand... and it was grat too!

I use gorilla superglue on just about everything. Works great, kinda pricey though.

Wally World had super glue 4 tubes 99 cents. I have never had a problem with this product.

I second the gorilla superglue.  I like it cause it doesn't dry to fast.  I mean it dries fast but it still gives you a few minutes to get the pieces in place and get your fingers off of it before your stuck to it.

I buy mine from the Dollar General Store, 2 tubes for 99 cents but I'll have to look at Wally World again for that 4 tubes for a buck. I've never seen it that cheap at my local WW before.

The stuff I buy says CA glue is the main ingredient so I think it's the same stuff that's in the more expensive brands without the higher price tag and it's plenty thin. Works great for everything I've done with it and I use alot of it!

The hot stuff is pretty good, it comes in medium size bottles too, not too much, not too little.  Its available in three viscosity types and the have them at Tru Value.  I've gotten several brands, from several places and all dry in the bottle after a while, even when stored in the fridge.

You know I bought the cheap stuff that is called "the original super glue" in 5 pack and it sucked.  I used it try to glue down silk thread for a wrap and it never did make it a complete bundle.  I then used loctite gel, and worked great.  But its gel.

Guess I will keep using krazy glue.

Krazy glue doesn't list CA as an ingredient so I didn't buy it when my favorite el cheapo brand was out. The stuff in the yellow and white tube that sells in 2 per pack for a buck at the Dollar General never has let me down and soaks right into any serving thread or B50 that I use for a wrap as a repair or ornamental. You can't get the stuff off once it's soaked in without taking some of the wood with it. I also use it on knots or any other place such as the nodes on bamboo before putting snake skins or wraps over them.

I bought a big bottle of the Loctite brand automotive super glue (thin) paid twice as much for it and it didn't last as long as the 2 pack for a buck and wasn't any better in my opinion. I felt like I got ripped off.

i used "zap a gap" super thin wicking type ca for a repair/refinish i did on an indian archery flatbow. i also used syringes that you can get from the pharmacy. some will say to just use dollar store ca glue and others will say to use loctite 420, which is a wicking type ca. the guys that refurbish old bows that hang out in the trad history/collecting forum say that there is a difference. i figure, why not pay a little extra and get the wicking type. that being said, if it's for holding a wrap in place or for gluing on tips, use the inexpensive stuff and save the wicking type for what it's meant for, getting down into small cracks. jmo. don

I can second the hobby shop recommendation.

Hobby shop CA is much higher grade than most of the wally world stuff. Most model airplane owners I know wouldn't even consider building an airplane from normal consumer grade CA. In some cases, "super glue" brand adhesives will be expired before they even get on the shelf.

Just picked up some of that "original" Super Glue brand stuff Alex, and yes, it sucks......I mean expired! I mostly use the glue for an arrow finish, so I buy/need the cheap runny stuff myself........Art

That's a good use for the cheap stuff!

I don't know many people who are as picky about their glues as the guys who work at a hobby shop. They're often trusting thousands of dollars to a few drops of super glue. I used to work at one, and we had a BSi salesman who claimed that their glues exceeded surgical grade CA standards.

I feel "Zap-A-Gap" is one of the best and it is one on the few that are actually waterproof.
