air brush for bow finishes

what kind of air brushes do you bowbuilders use for finishing bows?  a price idea for the brush would be great. also i know there is something required to keep moisture out of the air but i dont know what its called or what is cost.  any help there would be great also. thanks for any help!!

I have used a Badger 150 airbrush in the past but it was not for bow finish work.

The Badger 150 cost $100 and is a double action brush, which means that you can press the trigger and start the air before releasing any of the pigment or clear finish that you will be using. This is a good durable airbrush that is easy to get parts for. This brush has the capability of using 3 different size tips a fine, medium and large diameter tip.

The filter that you are asking about is a water trap. Its purpose is to capture the water that is in the airline. Without it, at some point, the airbrush will spit water out of the tip.

You will also want to look into getting an oil less compressor. A compressor with an air reservoir tank is the best because it will eliminate the pulsating effect that a diaphragm compressor will produce.

The hvlp(high volume low pressure ) guns are pretty much state of the art for spraying today. They produce much less overspray which saves material, is more atmosphere friendly and is less harmful to the user. Most of the material goes on the product instead of in the air. They can be a bit pricey. I use a gravity feed touch up gun I got from harbor freight. It wasn't very expensive but it sprays great. I was drawn to it because of its small cup. With my old one quart siphon feed gun I had to mix up way more material than I needed just to keep the gun working and not sputtering. Mike
