Time for an apology here, I was contacted by a PM from a nice fellow a couple days ago asking about this type of bow he had seen on here that I made. He needed some information on how I made mine and it reminded me of this thread.

Not long after offering up to do a build along on here I had some health problems. I was recovering from a heart valve replacement when I started building bows again and began this thread.

Not long after saying I would do a build along I had a accidently fall. I am on blood thinners for life from the mechanical heart valve operation I had and I ended up having 9 brain hemerroges and had 3 brain surgerys from this fall. I was in ICU and in the hospital for quite a while, I don't remember it but I do remember some of the rehab and finally walking again and getting to come home with a very large piece of my skull removed and wearing a helmet to protect it. They were able to fix my head and I was able to regain most of my memory except for right before and during the hospital stay.

I'm happy to say I've pretty much healed up from the injury's, I had to retire on disability but I was close to retirement anyway. I will probably have seizures and some vision problems the rest of my life but so far they haven't been to bad as long as I stay on my medicine. I'm back to playing with wood and shooting my bows and looking forward to hunting season again. I'm happy to still be here and still be enjoying my family, friends and doing some of the things I love to do.

I'm sorry for not finishing the thread and please except my apology and I hope some of you guys went on to build your own bows just like you wanted to. There's a lot of good bowyers on here.

Tracy - I wondered what happened to you since you didn't post on the bench in a long time.  You've sure gone through a lot and I'm happy to hear things are on the mend and you're back to enjoying archery again.  Your bows are awesome and I have saved some of your pics to my hard drive just to ogle at every now and then.

I'm glad your back and good luck this season.

Thank you for bringing this back- and glad you`re doing fine again!
I`d have a qustion too- would pheart be o.k. or even good for such kind of bow, glued straight and expecting 1-2" of set?
(only have backings, actionboo and pheart in suitable sizes in stock a.t.m.)
I know usually it`s better for core but compared to RD LBs n such the stress seems to be less likely to overpower the belly even with boo backing?!

Tracy. Sorry to hear about your health problems.  That was a nice bow you made.  I made one similar to it a few years ago.  I used lemonwood, madake bamboo and rosewood for the riser with some albino water buffalo for overlays.  Mine came out at 70#@29" but it draws smoothly for the higher poundage being its 70".

The lemonwood was billets so I used a z splice and Urac185 as well for both that and the bamboo, riser glue up.

Something sweet about bamboo backed bows.
Here is the lemonwood one next to a osage backed bamboo bow.

Hey Tracy,

Glad to hear you're out and about and building as well!  Honestly I get on here looking for more builds..or maybe JD building the statics again, another dang fine looking and I'm sure shooting bow as well!

I have my pile of slats sitting out with a long list of to do's ahead.  Just got in from moose, no joy but loads of fun!  took forever to draw the tag and it was well worth it!   Time to turn back to the shop myself and get some projects knocked out so I can finally get to building!  Springs right around the corner.  Winter, well, its days away now LOL!

Stay in touch!  I think KS is out again this coming spring.  Dads talking about coming up for steelies this spring.  Its a dang good thing I can fish.  As much as I love bowhunting, fishing still fills the freezer after letting 99% of everything go  ;) .

Dan

hey if you think of it, once I get back tinkering I'll need your mailing addy again, one of the projects lol!
