maple riser?

I bought a piece of birds eye maple to use for a riser. I was roughing out the  shape and noticed the ends that I had cut off had started to crack,and I did not notice them I was cutting them. I looked at the riser piece and noticed a small crack. I sealed the end with some deft and thought I would ask you guys. Should birds eye maple not be used for a riser? (will have ebony I-beam)

birds eye maple is really not different from hard maple, just with the marks.  Sounds like it just was not dried out yet.  If you are going to laminate it and I beam it, should be fine.  Keep the ends sealed and keep working.

I have used fiddle back and hard rock in many risers and have not had any problems.

Any time you get riser wood you need to let it acclamate to your climate. If you try to glue wood together with different moistures then they will move on you and open up in the glue lines. I know this by experence. As for the checks wick thin super glue in them and you should be ok.
