Cherry backing question
« on: August 13, 2011, 08:23:00 PM »
Hey guys and gals,
I'm planning out a cherry bow to build for my girlfriend.  you guys were very helpful on the draw length question I had a few weeks back.  What do you think is a good material to back a cherry board with?  I am thinking rawhide at the moment what do you think of that?  Would bamboo overpower it?
This is a cool piece of wood.  I ripped the board from a 100 year old piece of cherry that was originally meant to be a mantle.  This is the first bow I've built from this particular tree and I am excited to try it out. I think I can get a few staves and a few dozen arrows from it if it works.

Thanks,
cville

Raw hide will be plenty strong and easy to put on.

Rawhide would be an excellent backing and it makes a great pallet for adding artwork.

Thanks, I thought so I just wanted to run it by you guys first.  I'll post pics when I finally get it finished.  Work is going to be a little crazy for the next couple months.
