Question for you aluminum guys
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:33:00 PM »
I shoot a 55# @28" PSE Coyote. A year ago I was shooting 2018's cut to 28.5" and they were shooting fine. Went to carbon GT 55/75 but didn't like the complexity of weight tubes, blowing out knocks, etc. Went back to aluminums, and just bought some 2216 and cut them to 30" and they are shooting great.

My question is more of a poll. Post what size aluminums you use, what poundage bow and draw length, and what length you have your arrows cut to. I like the aluminums b/c it seems that you can grab basically any size arrow, and with a little playing around with arrow length you can get them flying true.

55#@28" recurve TD
29" 2018 w/ 150gr. tips
3-5" shield cut feathers

These shoot bullet holes in paper at 6-15yds.

I didn't do well with the GT5575s and weight tubes either. Switched to Carbon Express Trad. Heritage 250, 29.5" w/ 100gr. inserts and 125gr. tips, 3-5" feathers and they bareshaft beautifully and really hammer the target. I also went tried these shafts w/out the 100gr. inserts. They tuned great at 30" w/ 150gr. tips. I will continue to shoot these!

I use 2114`s cut to 29" for my 55 lb. bows, recurve and R/D longbow. Weight=500 grains.
I use 2020`s cut to 281/2 for my 60 lb. recurve and 64lb. Hill style longbow. Weight=565 grains.
As you can see I am not pro heavy spine or pro heavy weight for my arrows.
I also do not believe in using a wood arrow spine tester to spine alum. arrows. But that is my opinion and not the currant "thing".

61# @ 27" Morrison Takedown - 2020 cut to 27-1/2" with 175 grain points.

66# @ 27" Morrison Takedown - 2219 cut to 27-1/4" with 175 grain points.

Shoot Beaman MFX Classics also, but I like the easy tunablity of the legacy arrows.

Currently shooting 48# with a 28" draw.  Arrows are a 29.5" 2114 with 125 gr points and 29.5" 2016 with 125 gr. points.  For 3D, I've been using a 29" 2013 with 80 gr. points.

When I shoot aluminum I use 2016's at 28inches 145pts...or 2114's at 28 with 175pts.  Bear Super Kodiak 50# with 26 1/2inch draw.

My current favorite bow is the Howatt (Martin) Vision longbow, so I'll answer relative to the arrows I shoot from them:

30 1/2" 2117s out of my 55#-60# Visions

30 1/2" 2219s out of my 64#-70# Visions

31" 2117/1916 combo out of my 82# Vision
