suggestions?
« on: October 12, 2011, 12:48:00 PM »
I want to get into making some bows. I never made one before. So my question is what would be a good cheap wood to make the first few bows out of. practice bows if you will. also a good wood I could use that I will not have to back. I am nore in to very old style bows. English long Bows and other from that time frame. I am thinking a flat bow would be easier to learn with. any suggestions?

thanks in advance
Mike

This is the best place for a newbie to hang out and this link is the best build along to get you going.

You can build a basic pyramid board bow with this build along for less than 20$ start to finish.

Hey Stiks,
Jawge may not be allowed to post his site as he isn't a sponser.

Go to his response above, on the far left you'll see his name in Bold print with Trad Bowhunter under it in green.

Double click "George Tsoukalas" which is in bold print and you will find his profile with site.

Lots of good stuff there.

Yep, red oak board, pyramid style, Jawge's site, 4est's build along, poorfolkbows (Sam Harper), many others. Do a search here and you'll find enough information to fill a zip-drive!
Be sure to post questions, 'cause you'll get plenty of good reliable advice.
