Serving Size
« on: November 01, 2011, 11:56:00 AM »
I have one string where the serving around the nock area is too thin and my arrows don't really stay on too well. I would like to put some more serving on there but am afraid of going too thick. Has anyone had any experience doing this and if so, what size serving would you use for this? I'm guessing that a thinner serving would be the safest but thought I would ask.

I also wanted to know what serving you would use if you were going to make a string from the beginning.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

I use Halo which is the best for us finger shooters but expensive - $15 to $20 for a spool. For modern thin string materials I use one layer of the 0.30 size for a good fit with most nocks. For B-50 strings I use standard nylon serving in thinner gauge since the string is already fat and performance is not the highest priority.

Thanks Roy and Shaun. Greatly appreciate the feedback.

The string that I have with this issue is an Astroflight with crown serving which I believe is going to be less then the .30 size. From what I can see they don't sell that large.
