Resurrection bow

Had a request from Doc Nock to build a set of longbow limbs for an old recurve riser he had. It has been a tough challenge to get everything to fit when working with a completed riser. He wanted it to be 60" n2n and 50# at 29" draw. I spent a lot of time working with this limb design using Supertiller (thanks Alan!) before I started building the limbs.
Here's what the riser looked like when I got it.
 

Here's how it turned out. I had to narrow the limb pads from 1 3/4" to 1 1/8" but it didn't seem to ruin the line of the riser.
It ended up at 50# @ 29" and 60" n2n. This project helped keep me motivated during the cancer treatments and has meant a lot to me.

The veneer is ash olive burl

The sheet was rough and had to be sanded down then glued to a thin lam of actionboo so the face side could be sanded smooth. These veneers are sheared off a large block of wood so they aren't smooth like what you get from Kenny McKenzie. Wild looking wood though.

I want to publicly thank him here as well. I have oodles of emails with draw force curve pics in them that made my brain sweat! I bet he spent the better part of a year just noodling how to make it work better...and that was while he was feeling lousy prior to the diagnosis.

The "svelte" look is indeed accurate. I've been a recurve shooter most of my life...but find the quiet aspect of longbow limbs to draw me in.

When I put this slender filly together, I knew I had a very slim aristocratic young lass to take to the dance so I had to shave and shine up my shoes.     Galen trimmed/slimmed down the riser like he built it from scratch...

It came as I was dealing with sick truck issues and preping for a quick run outa town to end our PA season. I only got to shoot it a few shots... but it promises to be a sweet handler once I get it tuned up to my style of shooting!

Time...    And daylight! Not much of either right now when I'm home!

Galen, I'm glad you counted it as therapy cause I consider it a gift of love from a very dear person who's become a special friend!

Several asked "Hows it shoot?"

It's arrival coincided with some drama in my own world and shooting never got priority till the other week.

I tinkered with the set up to how I do my bows.

Twisted up the string a bit more than it was, got a good, quiet brace and started flinging arrows.

SWEEET!

steady, dead solid, quiet and it really puts the shafts in a group. Still not quite where I'm looking all the time, but the handle is a good bit different that my current bows...so some "re-training" is in order.

...and it's beautiful! A total work of art that is functional and going to be a killer...if I can ever line up on a critter in this wild part of PA I live!
