Saving sinew backing
«

A gentleman and I sinew backed a bow 5 weeks ago.
We degreased the back and scored it, used Knox Gelatin and the bow was tillered to 20 inches before we put the sinew on. The bow has been setting in a hotbox for 5 weeks. Yesterday about a 16 inch section lifted from the back. Is there a way to reattach this section? If not can the sinew be saved if we strip it off of the bow?

I have reattached sinew successfully. Assuming you used hide glue. Soak it for a while to soften. Prep the bow again. Make sure and size the back with hide glue. Then use hide glue to reattach. Wrap with gauze and let it dry for a couple weeks. I'm not a fan of forcedrying sinew. Keep it indoors in a heated house and it should be fine.

What John says....I've done it as well. Also, like John, I prefer to let the sinew dry at normal temps.
