Black and White Ebony ???

I'm goin to be starting a Black and white ebony bow soon and was wondering if there is anything I should know about this wood before I work it. From what I have gathered it sands to an almost glassy finish. But I have also heard that it can be difficult due to checking. What are y'alls thoughts and opinions.
Thanks Shawn

if your wood is dry before you start, there should be no more checking. You will find that there are a lot of boards checked when you buy them and you must pick through it.
I use a lot of it without issues.
