Which sander?
« on: December 16, 2011, 07:04:00 PM »
So thanks to you guys my build is coming along - hot box and form are done.  I band sawed the handle and am getting ready to glue up but I am going to need one more thing - a sander.  I have it narrowed down to the (apparently beloved by some hated by others)   Ridgid   Oscillating belt edge / spindle sander and the  Harbor Freight  6"X48" belt and 9" disc sander.  Which would you experienced guys think is more useful for bow building?  $200.00 is my limit.

I'm on my second Rigid. I've a disc/belt and a 6X80 belt as well. The Rigid sees more work than the others combined.Spindle sanders come in handy.....

My vote is for the rigid-I've worked mine for 3-4 years now with no complaints.

I use a Harbor Freight belt/disc and a Delta spindle sander.  I would think the Rigid would be a good choice for a single unit.  I would love to get a long belt sander.

I have had a 6x48 sander for years and never really used it much.  About a year ago I turned it up on edge and now I use it more than any other power tool I own.  I have no experience with the Rigid but others love them.
