Grizzly Spindle Sander?
« on: December 27, 2011, 11:29:00 AM »
Anybody have one? If so how do you like it?

I am going to be buying a new floor model in the next couple weeks and I am really leaning toward the Steel City model for $1029, I like the JET model but they are $200 more and appear to be the same thing. The Grizzly is $750.

I have the cheapie $145.00 unit. The spindle is within .002 of square, dust sucker is great with shopvac, well worth the $.

I'm sure you are lookin at the bigger model, I only go thru 4-5 bows a year.  If the bigger one is comparatively better for $ spent, should be OK.

Jason,
I dont have the spindle sander, but other than my rikon bandsaw and shopsmith every other piece of equipment I have is grizzly. Dust collectors, belt sanders, pneumatic drum sander,12" drum sander, and the big shaper customized into a handle/pattern grinder. I am very satisfied with everything so far and dont think you can go wrong.

Earlier this year I bought a Grizzly 1073 bandsaw ,the guy also had the big grizzly spindle sander for sale..i checked it out, it was nice, ran smooth and quiet.. I dont have a big shop so I had to pass on it. I have a jet bench top spindle sander. I do regret not buying the big griz the 9 inch spindles look more user friendly than the shorter 6 inch jet spindles.

Jason, I have the 1hp combo spindle with a 12" disk sander.   Very happy with it.   Wish I could find some coarser sleeves though...

John, I'm not sure I looked at the sander you have, but here is some sleeves in coarser than the 60 Griz offers.

Also, Jason, you better get it now if you go Griz, just got the 2012 catalog from Griz, and the sander I bought is 10% higher in the 2012 book.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I had a quote of $1199 for the Jet, I do have a Jet drum sander and 89" belt sander, both have proven to be very well built, about 5 years on each and never an issue.

I found out today the Steel City is no longer available so thats out. I do like the higher table height of the Jet over the Grizzly. Looks like I have to build a couple extra bows next month  :D
