Just scrape them with a spoon real good to flesh and staple to a board flesh side up and let them air dry. Don't salt them or anything else.

when they are dry just cut along the belly scales and roll them up and put in a zip lock.

If you are ready to use them now, skin the shakes, clean the skins and glue them down green. They will dry along with the glue.

Just lightly rough up the sealer to give the glue a good bond.  No need to remove it all.

Actually having the sealer on the back will help keep moisture from the glue out of the wood. I have added a thin layer of TBIII to the back of a bow, let it dry completely them back the bow. The initial application of glue acts like a moisture barrier.

I don't know if you've skinned those snakes yet or not, but here's a how to on the skinning, prepping and drying that I did. It might help answer a few of those questions you have?

Then lightly rough up the glass backing with a light grit sandpaper or emory cloth before applying. I use Elmer's wood glue because it dries clear to apply the skins.

Eric has a real good tutorial on applying snake skins.
